2 Timothy is Paul's final letter, written from a prison cell as he prepares for his impending death. Paul intends to finish his race well. More than this, he desires that Timothy would live and minister faithfully, passing on the truth of the gospel and the possibility of godliness to others. 2 Timothy isn’t simply about the end of Paul’s journey. It serves as a call to all believers to live faithfully—and finish faithfully—the gospel-defined life and work before them. May we all come to the end of our race and say: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
